Eurotunnel celebrates record summer

Eurotunnel has announced a record summer as more motorcycles, caravans, cars and coaches travelled under the channel than ever before. During July and August traffic was up by 17 per cent on the same months last year. On 14 August the channel tunnel recorded its busiest day ever with a total of 14,825 cars making the crossing between Folkestone and the Pas-de-Calais.
Eurotunnel transported its first customer in 1994 and on 21 July celebrated its 250 millionth passenger. Commercial director for Eurotunnel, Jo Willacy, said Le Shuttle represented both a cheap and environmentally friendly way of travelling to the continent. The […]

Travel in France disrupted by strikes

Air France and British Airways are warning passengers that their travel plans may be disrupted by strike action involving French transport workers due to commence at 5pm today. The industrial action is in response to the French government’s proposal to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62. As of tomorrow, post offices, schools and civil service departments across the country will also be affected.

TripAdvisor facing legal action

The hugely popular internet travel advice specialist TripAdvisor is under legal threat.
A group, which represents more than one hundred hoteliers and includes user reviews of thousands more, is preparing itself for a transatlantic assault.
The UK-based hotel reputation management company Kwikchex has said that around 120 hotels, predominantly from the US and UK have agreed to join the class action which centres on how certain information is contained in some of the reviews of the properties it represents.

BA unveils takeover targets

A dozen major international airlines are believed to be considered as possible takeover targets.
British Airways and Iberia have apparently compiled a shortlist of as many as 12 airlines which, once their own merger has been completed, they hope to join with or buy outright.
BA chief Willie Walsh has not identified any of the potentially involved airlines, although industry analysts believe that the emerging markets of India and China would be prime targets.
