The UK is ready for the electric car revolution claims report

UK consumers have acknowledged that they are ready to embrace the new revolution in electric vehicle technology. Research released today revealed that consumers across Britain have said they are ready to adopt the new eco-friendly car sharing program, but added that charging infrastructure would need to be improved.
The Smart Plugged-In report, from the Future Foundation, showed that two-thirds of British consumers are read and willing for the new program, while three-quarters agreed that fuel emissions are a concern that needs addressing – the same number who said they would play their part in aiding C02 reductions.

Car rental firms join European funding quest

Leading car rental companies have joined the growing chorus of organisations keen to fill the gaps in funding brought about by reduced bank lending.
In the past week, Europcar has generated 250 million euros through bond issues aimed at providing assistance to boost their rental fleets, while rival Hertz raised 400 million euros through a similar undertaking. Europe’s other leading player, Avis Europe, has also announced their intention to raise up to 130 million euros through a new stock issue.

Summer holidays get cheaper as pound strengthens

England’s early exit from the World cup has resulted in a surge of last minute holiday bookings. According to Lastminute.com, within a few hours of England’s elimination by Germany, bookings had risen by 25 per cent on the day before. Andy Washington, Lastminute’s head of travel, said that people seem to be booking a summer holiday as a way of getting over the soccer blues.
The fact that the pound is at the highest level against the euro at the moment compared to any time in the last 19 months is also a cause for celebration for the British holidaymaker.

Lufthansa blocks Emirates expansion in Germany

The ongoing row between airline giants Emirates and Lufthansa looks set to continue as the Dubai based carrier accuses the Germans of deliberately blocking a request for more access to Germany by making misleading claims. Emirates says that Lufthansa has distributed a document containing distorted facts about the Emirates business model, the number of flight Emirates makes to the country and the current situation regarding the carrier’s rights to land in Germany.
