Severe disruptions to both road and rail services are set to throw this Bank Holiday weekend travel plans into chaos.
Millions of UK travellers are facing delays after a spate of recent roadworks were announced, along with five of the seven main railway lines throughout the country being cut by engineers for servicing. To compound the misery for those looking to get away for the weekend, the weather forecast is gloomy, with temperatures expected to fall to around 10 degrees Celsius. The European Union has announced that it will be bringing to an end the restrictions which are currently in place to prevent airline passengers carrying liquids onto aircraft. Currently, passengers are only allowed to take liquids on board if they are in containers measuring no more than 100ml, and if the containers are visible in a clear plastic bag measuring no more than 20cm by 20cm.
The restrictions are due to come to an end by April 2013. The ban on liquids came into force in 2006 after British police uncovered a terrorist plot to smuggle liquid explosives onto transatlantic flights. […]

China has announced that it is lifting the ban on anyone with HIV or Aids entering the country. The change in quarantine laws comes just days before the Shanghai World Expo is launched, an event the Chinese hope will attract around four million visitors from abroad.
Officially, the State Council said that the lifting of the ban was due to evidence that border control did very little to stop the spread of HIV. The Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc has announced a quarterly profit that has been hugely beyond estimates.
The excellent profits, coupled with the recent takeover announcement of the company by Hertz, has combined to lead Dollar Thrifty to reaffirm its positive outlook for the remainder of the year, a factor further strengthened by lower fleet costs and increasing demand.
