British Airways Plans Discussed by Willie Walsh

The chief executive of British Airways, Willie Walsh, has been known for his regular clashes with trade unions. Right now the carrier has a lot of things on its plate that need dealing with. This includes the looming strike for Christmas, as well as a lot of extra charges that many people are not currently happy with. Lufthansa Shows €32 Million Loss in Nine Months

Lufthansa has just recently reported, as of October 29th, that they had a net loss of almost €32 million for the first nine months of this year. This news comes despite the fact that the airline posted a profit of €226 million between January and September of 2009. The carrier said that it was left in the red due to weak demand and the overall recession.

Airlines Concerned Over Rising Costs

The new traffic results, which were just recently released by the International Air Transport Association, show that passenger demand remains down year on year. However, the bad news for airlines is that their costs have risen.
Airlines from all over the world, including many in the UK, have cut their capacity in order to try to meet demand. New London parking scheme allows wave and pay

Drivers in inner London will soon be able to wave a debit card or credit card at a parking meter to pay their fare.
In the wake of the UK government pursuing a course towards cashless transport payment across Britain the Westminster Council initiative will theoretically do away with the need for carrying cash for parking and even pin numbers not required as ‘wave any pay’ is released.
As of early 2010 there will be some 20 new magnetic readers installed on parking machines in London’s West End which will be activated once the user’s card is swiped across the sensors.

Fatalities higher amongst males

In situations that occur after a motor vehicle breakdown, men are three times more likely to suffer fatalities or injuries. A new report car care specialists Comma studied figures from the Department of Transport (DfT) which reveal that men are far more careless on the hard shoulder than women.
In a 15 year period up to 2008 there were 2,058 deaths or injuries among males on the hard shoulder of the motorway, as opposed to just 768 female incidents. The statistics relate specifically to roadside breakdowns.
